Carousel of Information - Portland

There was another Carousel of Information this last weekend, this was a great way to spend a beautiful sunny Saturday morning. It was originally scheduled to take place in Woodburn, but the location was changed at the last minute. This common practice of the Mexican Consul General happens frequently in a lame attempt to discourage protestors.

Proud Americans stood on each corner

expressing their opinion on this important subject of Illegal Immigration.

We were only allowed on the sidewalk surrounding the site of the criminal activity, the parking lot area and the building itself are "Property of Mexico" (No Gringos Allowed!!).

This is "Red Coat Guy" talking to the Mexican Consul General as several Illegals outside the building anxiously await their "Matricular Card" so they can start receiving FREE State benefits.

I noticed several people honking and waving to protestors as they drove by the location and even some people waving from the MAX train as it passed by every few minutes.

Daniel found some openings in the window of the building and decided

to have some fun with his camera

and was taking pictures thru the openings in the mini blinds.

When they saw the camera flashing and realized what was going on

they began fixing the openings and closing up all the gaps, so Daniel went to the top side for a few more shots.

About two seconds after this picture, a hand poked thru the blinds flipping him the bird. Daniels photos of this confrontation can be seen on his blog.

"Red Coat Guy" acted as doorman for the "Carousel of Information" event (tipping required; American dollars only) .

Daniel and Rick Hickey discuss the days event.

These fine Americans drove all the way from southern Oregon to show their support.

On the opposite corner of the street supporters continue to rally.

A few more fine Americans took to the nearby freeway overpass

to help spread the word.

Supporters continue to bask in the warm sunshine throughout the morning.

This sign was directly across the street, your O.D.O.T. dollars at work.

Victoria Taft showed up to give support.

This Gentleman thanked everybody for showing up and then led the group in the "Pledge of Allegiance".

This Channel 2 KATU cameraman interviewed Rick Hickey.

Here is a Channel 12 FOX news reporter talking with Daniel.

Rick talks with some fellow suppoters.

The line to get in continues to grow.

Here comes the Channel 12 FOX news cameraman with Rick Hickey.

This sign pretty much sums it up.

This Guy couldn't stay too long but was good enough to hold Rick's sign

while FOX news interviewed him.

Daniel takes Victoria's dog for a short walk.

FOX news reporter interviewing one of the criminals.

He kept looking at me and did not seem to like me taking his picture.

The event ended shortly thereafter.

And then there were none....

Brokeback Radio

Ok, this is just too funny to pass up, and I had to share it with somebody. I saw this magazine displayed at my local Washington Mutual Bank branch.
I walked right by it at first, and exited the bank before it hit me. I turned around and went back inside and looked again. The BrainstormNW magazine was free so I grabbed one. The article can be read in its entirety on the BrainstormNW website.

Old Town Sherwood Streetlights

The Old Town area is taking shape, the streets and sidewalks are making a slow transformation as the weather permits. In several areas around the new library, the streetlights are now in place. The streetlights are hard to miss…because they are bright blue. I must have been gone somewhere on the day they called me for my opinion?

I do like the color blue, it may even be my favorite color. I like blue jeans, blue berries, blue sky, and even Marge Simpson’s blue hair (but I refuse to drink anything blue).
However, to tell you the truth I am having a hard time warming up to the idea of blue streetlights.

I think of Sherwood Forest as green, and Robin Hood as wearing green, and green as being the signature color of our town. I guess change is always hard to accept for many of us. I wonder how this flood of blue will match the green canopies over the entrances of many old town businesses. I do not have an acute fashion sense or pride myself in being especially trendy. What do I know?
I suppose blue and green could exist together, but it is difficult to imagine. Maybe blue is the new green?

The one thing I do know for sure…The only thing in town that the blue streetlights do match (and very well I might add), is the American Legion Hall.
(Note to Self: Never ever under any circumstances regardless of how much beer I drink paint my house blue, even if it is on sale cheap at Home Depot)

Take a walk downtown and judge for yourself. Consider stopping by the Old Town Coffee Station for a warm (or cold) libation to aid in your decision.

Carousel of Information – Eugene / The Final Encounter

The Eugene Police kept a close eye on both protesters and anti-protesters alike

throughout the day,

Public Safety and DHS Officials were always visible to all.

This is the camera shy University of Oregon employee Laura Blake Jones

She is shown here talking with other criminal organizers.

Meanwhile in the background the line to get the ever so valuable Matricula Consular Card

kept growing and growing

and even extending into a neighboring parking lot.

The Anti-Protesters

brought out the cameras every time

Daniel approached the crowd.

This the latest in "Role Model fashion wear".

The"Che Guevara"Terrorist Hand bag collection

has only by a slight margin edged out the"Sub Comandante Marcos" T-shirt apparel line.

This T-shirt is running third place in sales for the "Role Model" fashion market, it is the "Save Tookie" apparel line.

The word in the "fashion circles" is this item is soon to be discontinued, sales have been dropping in the last couple months.

By the way...Hows that campaign workin for ya???

This is University of Oregon Professor Bob Bussel, with his "Jazz Hands"

in an attempt

to explain his liberal views

and Daniel seems to be amused by his rationality.

Enter "Tall Dude"

and He said: "Let there be expletives"

and so it came to pass,

as He expressed his opinion

and immaturity.

The crowd began to sing and chant once again

as "Tall Dude" continued to Rant and Rave

along with others in the crowd.

Oh No! Here comes "Johnny Law" to settle things down

and to convince Daniel

He may be

making the non-natives restless

and agitated.

Daniel explains what

has taken place

but the Cops

are not impressed

and convince Daniel to return to the other side of the street.

The singing gets even louder

with the help of U of O Professor Bob Bussel.

And all are happy once again.

Hey look who is back! It's the "Consul General" Yippee!

Daniel extends a warm welcome to him, but the greeting is refused.

They begin to talk

as a criminal supporter chimes in with an opinion

and Daniel

voices his concerns

and tells the "Consul General" that this type of criminal event will be put to a halt in the very near future,

the "Consul General" is not convinced and seems amused.

The police are always a couple of steps away.

"I got this DOG and I'm not afraid to use it!"

The group begins to clap

and cheer

and sing once again in celebration.

"Tall Dude" returns to protesters side of the street

to give some more of His opinion to Rick Hickey

and also to Daniel

but this time Daniel gets in a word of response.

"Hey Look Here"

"They found a guitar player"

A proud Amercian Veteran talks with the "Guitar Man"

just before he once again leads the group in song.

The "Proud Veteran" yells to the crowd to join the United States Armed Forces and get citizenship that way.

As you may guess there are not many takers, and it only seemed to once again get things stirred up.

Daniel trys to persuade the "Veteran" to return to the other side of the street,

but the Cops make the final convincing argument.

The Anti-Protesters clap and cheer and hold up signs like "No Human is Illegal"

These events and more were commonplace and may or may not have had an impact on the number of "Matricula Consular Cards" issued that day.

But regardless of the impact the Protesters had, they are going to be at many if not all of the scheduled "Carousel of Information" Events in the State of Oregon.

"GO TEAM!!!"

Carousel of Information – Eugene (Part VII)

New Anti-Protest signs continue to appear

Daniel approaches in an attempt to ask "what does it say?"

But they turn their back in an attempt to show their "Good Side"

and continue to walk away

A Eugene Police Officer walks between them in an attempt to defuse the situation

Daniel appears amused by the behavior

and the anti-protesters are happy to see him go away

and turn back around to continue to voice their message.

Notice the T-shirt that shows the terrorist "Role model" Sub Comandante Marcos of the Zapatista National Liberation Army and is embraced by these folks

still more illegals filter in all day to get their Matricula Card

but the silence of protest is deafening

Rick Hickey of OFIR proudly displays a reminder to all

some get worried once again

as Daniel approaches

to view the new sign held up by the "Terrorist wannabe"

He finds it amusing once again

and takes note that...

the word "Central" was left out between the word "All" and "Americans"

but they are not as amused

as the rest of us.

Another gentleman from behind the barricade gets Daniels attention, He extends to him a warm welcome

which is quickly refused

and starts to voice concerns

and gives Daniel an "ear full"

but when Daniel starts to speak he does not want to hear it

and the conversation soon ends.

"Who was that bald man?"......He asks.

"Clipboard Guy" responds with a smile, "They call Him ......Daniel"

Carousel of Information – Eugene (Part V)

Here is the Mexican Consul General on one of His trips out of the Compound

Business must be good, thats a nice new SUV

He waves to his Fans

This van drove by a few times before deciding to stop in

There was no shortage of customers to "Chez Carousel"

"Clipboard Guy" directs more people to "Benefits"

"Slow down anchor baby! .....Wait for Daddy!"

and as the crowd grew...

so did the presence of local law enforcement to "Protect and Serve" the criminals.
It was later determined the reason for the yellow tape was to protect the "Crime Scene"

This is another VIP (Very Illegal Person) here to get "Benefits"

That looks like an expensive new vehicle.
I guess its easy to afford if you dont pay taxes on the money you earn.

"Clipboard Guy"take time to smile for the camera

Signs...

and more signs

This is a "Legal Amercian" expressing her opinion to our fine Governor

and yet another fine citizen

A thoughtful wave...

to the people that will pay for their benefits

and...

no comment

and more satisfied customers on their way home

This sums it up

Carousel of Information – Eugene (Part IV)

The line is forming quickly

This is "Clipboard Guy", He welcomes the Guests to "Chez Carousel" and confirms their reservation to this fine establishment

And yet still more criminals

Daniel talks with so called "Official"

DHS made several "Drive By's" during the event in the "Publicly Owned" vehicles that are for "Official Business Only"

Carousel of Information – Eugene (Part II)

It was a crisp February in Eugene Oregon, what a great way to spend a Saturday morning.
Man helping fellow Man….To get a Matricula Consular Card that is!

This form of SHAM ID is only made available to Mexican citizens that do not have a green card or visa and no proof of being here legally.

This then becomes their “fast track” to getting a drivers license and other services.
This helping hand directed to our “Southern Brothers” took place on the University of Oregon property.

When we first got there, the participants were few.

As the morning progressed, so did the presence of the criminal element.

The Troops begin to rally...

The (non) Natives are restless and plan their attack.

Well here comes the first "Customer"...Lets get this Carousel a Spinnin!

Carousel of Information – Eugene

Are you familiar with this term? The Carousel of Information is an event sponsored by the Mexican Consulate and condoned by the State of Oregon.

It is a real eye opener to say the least!

This State Sponsored Event uses Your Tax Dollars to Help Illegal Aliens register for free benefits offered by the State.
Overtime weekend wages are paid to these devoted State Workers that drive “Publicly Owned “vehicles (see below) to these events.
This also puts them on the DMVfast trackto obtain an Oregon State Drivers License
.
I personally find these actions Criminal and Obscene! And it’s all paid for by Your Hard Earned Tax Dollars!

Many of these individuals don’t want to become legal Americans because then they are then required to pay income taxes like other REAL AMERICANS!
Life is a whole lot easier if you get your wages paid under the table (if you work at all) and collect free benefits and services from the State of Oregon…How Sweet it is!

The following state agencies participate and the consulate's invitation:

Consulate of Mexico in Portland
Department of Consumer & Business Services
Oregon Attorney General’s Office
Bureau of Labor and Industries
Oregon Child Development Coalition
Department of Human Services
Department of Revenue
Department of Transportation — DMV
Employment Department
Oregon Health Action Campaign
Oregon Health Division
Housing and Community Services of Oregon
Legal Aid Services of Oregon
Mid-Willamette Valley Senior Services Agency
Oregon Migrant Education
Social Security Administration

Senator Jason Atkinson

Last week I had a unique opportunity to meet Senator Jason Atkinson in a small venue at a local Republican Meet-up in Tigard. The Cheezer, Kate1040 and MaxRedline were among the crowd of supporters. My good friend The Cheezer recorded this meeting and some good sound bites are available on his Blog. The Senator took the time to shake hands and personally thank the bloggers that support and promote his campaign.
The bloggers for Atkinson movement is quickly gaining momentum and like minded bloggers are encouraged to join us in giving him support. Senator Jason Atkinson brings a new and fresh perspective to Oregon politics.
His common sense attitude toward Oregon’s long over due problems are encouraging.
If you are not familiar with Senator Jason Atkinson, I would suggest you visit his website and read through the 15 reasons to vote for Jason Atkinson. Also make it a point to attend an upcoming event or speaking engagement. You will soon be convinced He is the Right Candidate for Oregon.

He spoke today on Lars Larson and some of his comments have been misinterpreted by many listeners. Many of these misinformed individuals are actively spreading rumors on many other blogs. Go to the NWRepublican or Gullyborg for the straight scoop.

Here is a message from the Atkinson camp:
I think it’s important that the truth lead any discussion of this or any issue. Here’s the truth: Despite what some have said, the President’s plan does not provide amnesty for illegals currently in the country. In fact, it is Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID) (who is not carrying the President’s plan), who wants to allow illegals currently in the country to apply as a guestworker. Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) has a plan that would force illegals to return to their home countries before applying as a guestworker. The President is trying to broker a compromise between these competing plans but has said that he will not support a final plan that includes any kind of amnesty for individuals currently in this country illegally.
Let’s be clear on another point, if somehow the final federal plan does include the ability for a person currently in this nation illegally to stay here for any reason, as a guestworker or otherwise, Jason Atkinson will oppose that plan, and do so vocally. There should be no rewards for breaking the law.
If a federal plan similar to Sen. Chambliss’ can be implemented, and Jason Atkinson is elected Governor of Oregon, the results would be:
1) The borders would be closed and the flow of illegal aliens would slow dramatically and maybe entirely.
2) Federal and state agents would check employers to ensure that all their employees are legally in the country. They would either have to have proof of citizenship or proof of guestworker status or have other legal immigration status.
3) Illegal workers currently in Oregon would lose their jobs as their employers would face heavy penalties and stepped-up federal and state enforcement.
4) Illegal aliens would lose their ability to gain state-funded benefits (unemployment, health care, welfare, etc).
5) Illegal aliens would lose their ability to obtain an Oregon Driver’s license.
6) Illegal aliens would lose their ability to vote.
7) Illegal aliens would have little choice but to return to their home country as they would be unemployable and could not receive any government assistance.
I trust this clears the decks on this issue. We would appreciate everyone clarifying this for their audience, in particular noting the truth that neither the President nor Jason Atkinson supports amnesty for those currently in this country illegally.

Sherwood Library Ribbon Cutting

The new Sherwood library opened last Saturday afternoon, did you attend? If you did, you were probably impressed as most of us .
The new structure is large and spacious, many large windows and high ceilings. The City of Sherwood has located its offices in the upstairs portion of the building.

All went as planned with the exception of some disruptions of unruly children that were allowed to annoy the crowd during the ceremony by their irresponsible parents.

There was cake and punch for all to enjoy as the Mayor and other dignitaries gave speeches before the ribbon cutting ceremony took place.
So dust off your library card or get one if you don’t already have one, and stop by a take a look at the new crown jewel of Sherwood.

Cell Phones

Remember the days when we chose to eavesdrop on the person in the next booth at a restaurant? Now we were able to sit there and hear all the dirty laundry we want from three tables away and enjoy our meal.

Remember the days when we went to the store with a shopping list? Now we can wander through the store aisles without a clue and our shopping needs dictated to us over the airwaves by a spouse. The checkout clerk is now days merely a rude distraction to our important in-depth conversations.

Remember the days when we had to actually pay attention to the road while we drove a car? Now we are able to travel from point “A” to point ”B” while being oblivious to meaningless distractions like traffic signals, pedestrians, or those other bicycle whacko’s that want to share the road with us.

Is it not amazing how this technology has enriched our lives?

How did we survive in the days before cell phones?

Captain Ron's Sports Bar and Grill

Sherwood has a new Sports Bar, have you seen it? You may not even have heard about it yet. It is called Captain Ron’s Sports Bar & Grill. It’s easy to see from Highway 99w, but a little harder to get to. You have to get on Meinecke Road and turn into the Smith Farm Estates to work your way back to it. I am not so sure how welcomed this additional traffic will excite the residents?

I went there the other day for lunch for the first time .The inside walls of course are lined with televisions, each tuned to almost every conceivable sport you could imagine. Football, Basketball, Auto Racing, even Poker. In one corner is an impressive trophy of some proud hunter, a seven point Bull Elk.
Individual or team sports don’t do much for me unless there is a motor bolted onto something, man and machine is where it’s at for me. I positioned myself properly to watch the “Speed Channel” and enjoy my lunch.

The menu has several burgers and appetizers much like you would expect. It is non-smoking and allows all ages up until a specific time in the evening. The prices seem inline with most Pubs and Restaurants. The burger that I ordered was good, and the beer mug was cold and frosty. The service I thought could have been faster, since I was about the only customer in there at the time. The overall impression of the new establishment was OK and pretty much what I expected. I would go back again and urge you try it out and formulate your own opinion.

Bubble, Bubble, Toil and Trouble

It was a cold clear day a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to snap a couple of pictures of the freezing water at the waterfalls at the roundabouts. I went to the roundabout at Meinecke Road and Dewey Drive and I was in for a surprise.

It appeared that some prankster had added soap to the fountain. That degree of immaturity more than likely belongs to some local adolescent with too much time on his hands. I guess some may refer to this as “good clean fun”. I call it “vandalism”, an unfortunate reality of an ever increasing population. It won’t be the last time we see things like this.

I have already noticed some minor graffiti around town also. The graffiti has been there for about a year now, and not yet been removed or repainted. I look at it almost daily as I drive by and curse (under my breath) the low life that created it.

Old Town Coffee Station

Have you been in Old Town Sherwood lately? If you are like most people these days, you avoid it like the pelage.

The construction is making a mess of the streets and getting to the businesses a nightmare. Who knows where the detour will route you or the next temporary STOP sign will pop up out of nowhere and take you by surprise.
They say it will continue thru next summer before it’s finished. After it’s all done the Old Town area will be transformed and we will all be happy and stand holding hands in awe and amazement (we hope). Maybe this facelift will be the shot in the arm that Old Town needs?

Well in the meantime, people are not going to the downtown area to shop or anything much these days unless they are forced to do so. The businesses are still open and depending on us for the continuation of their livelihood. Many Old Town shop owners have come and gone throughout the years, and this next year will take its toll on their bottom line due to the rebuilding and construction.

Please make time in your busy schedule and go out of your way and visit the old town area despite the inconvenience. Some business owners may not yet notice the drop off in revenue because some streets are still open, and those merchants may not yet feel the pain but they soon will.

Right now the street is blocked off and tore up from the New City Hall building down to and in front of the Old Town Coffee Station. The Coffee Station is still open and operating as usual, except for the lack of customers. People do not want to drive around the barricades or get their shoes dirty and walk in the construction areas to get their morning (or afternoon) coffee.

It has really “creamed” Shannon’s coffee clientele this Christmas Season. Please brave the elements and get your shoes dirty and stop by the Coffee Station to get your coffee and say “Hi” to Shannon.
She will appreciate your business and her pleasant smile and positive attitude will brighten your day as it does mine.
As the construction moves past her coffee shop in future months it will take its toll on the next victim.

Please continue to visit Old Town

If you didn’t before, please do so now in these times of need.

Happy New Year!

I would like to start off by saying “Happy New Year“and Best Wishes to All.

Well I woke up today with a headache, much like many of you I am sure.
My pain was not from distilled spirits or the fermented nectar, but the cravings of caffeine.
It’s been almost two days since hot java has touched my lips…what am I thinking?!
Within an hour all was back to normal, and my minds clarity had resumed.

This is my New Years resolution, a new forum to vent my experiences and day to day ramblings or rants and raves of my life in the (what was) small community of Sherwood, Oregon.
